What leadership skill has served you best?
Humble confidence. It has taken me years to build this skill, but once I began to develop a confident, yet humble, attitude, new doors began to open, and new opportunities started to present themselves. This is not a skill gained overnight, or even over a year. It is built through patient work and diligence over a number of years.
Since your time as a 20 Under 40 honoree, what is the most impactful experience and what did you learn from it?
Serving as the President of the Topeka Bar Association. I learned that I could take my leadership skills to the next level, and lead a board, and an association, of attorneys that I both respect and look up to.
What advice do you have for future leaders?
Never stop learning and adapting. As your knowledge and experience grows, trust your instincts, and your confidence level will continue to increase. Your growth as a leader will be a natural result of this process.
