Women of Influence | Lucy Opit

TK: What does this honor mean to you personally and professionally?

Lucy: I am humbled to be nominated for this award. I have worked my whole life to inspire women and to win this award means so much to me (personally) having grown up in rural Kenya in the 70’s and 80’s, my role was defined by that culture upon being born a girl. America and specifically this Great State of Kansas has enabled me to fulfil my dreams and strive for my fullest potential.

Professionally speaking, it has cemented my commitment to continue to inspire other women by leading by example.

TK: How would you describe your leadership style?

Lucy: Authoritative. Leading by example and not being afraid of failure and inspiring others to follow my footsteps.

TK: Who has inspired you the most?

Lucy: My mom. When I look back, she was ahead of her time.

TK: What is one piece of advice you would give young women early in their career?

Lucy: Do you! Do not be afraid of failure or worry about what other people think and don’t let people put you into a box. Your mindset is everything so protect it at all costs by surrounding yourself with positive people who want to help you win. Use your resources to improve yourself every single day and don’t let what you may think is a barrier hold you back. Use that barrier as an advantage, put your mind to it, strategize and you can achieve it.
