Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Rainforest Adventure at the Library

Rainforest Adventure at the Library

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library will be wild this summer with the Rainforest Adventure and Summer Reading May 22 – August 15. Minotaur Mazes’ Rainforest Adventure is a free interactive maze full of activity and the sights and sounds of a tropical rainforest in the library’s Alice C. Sabatini Gallery.

The Rainforest Adventure is a gigantic maze covering 2,000 square feet. It’s geared toward elementary-age children, but it's a family activity adults will enjoy. The journey begins in the highest treetops surrounded by migratory birds and radiant sunlight. Kids answer questions about the rainforest to reach the forest floor. Incorrect answers lead to dead ends. Correct answers lead deeper into the four layers of the rainforest – emergent, canopy, understory and forest floor.

To manage attendance and promote social distancing, individuals may reserve a Rainforest Adventure visit time and skip waiting in line. Reservations are perfect for groups who want to explore together. Drop-ins are also welcome because Rainforest Adventure is open all the hours the library is open, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday - Friday, Saturday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday noon – 9 p.m. Wearing a face mask is required.

Reading is a family activity that’s fun, relaxing and provides playful learning that prompts lots of questions to keep minds active. Reading this summer will be an adventure that doesn’t require a schedule. Summer Reading challenges everyone to read at least 12 hours in 12 weeks to earn a prize! Sign up is easy at tscpl.org/summer to start tracking reading time May 22.

In-library programs are limited this summer, but kids can pick up a new Adventure Bag every week at the Gallery or Curbside Pickup May 22 - August 15. The bags are full of rainforest projects and entertainment to take home. Find other summer events at tscpl.org/summer

Rainforest Adventure, the 20th annual art exhibit for children, is made possible in part by The Library Foundation through contributions from the Sabatini Family Foundation and The National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom.
