THE FAIRY DOLL
This charming one act ballet first premiered in 1888 and is based on a story by ETA Hoffmann -the same gentleman who penned The Nutcracker. The storyline features an enchanted toy shop which enjoys brisk trade during the day but when night falls, the toys miraculously come to life. Choreography staged by Kansas Ballet’s Artistic Directors Stephanie Heston and Alexander Smirnov with music by Josef Bayer.
VISITING ARTISTS / SUMMER INTENSIVE STUDY
The summer performance is a culmination of three weeks of intensive study by students at Kansas Ballet Academy. Academy dancers train several hours per day, five days per week to prepare for the event, while they participate in special workshops and coaching sessions with visiting artists.
BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF TOPEKA
As part of our summer camp programming at Boys & Girls Clubs, participating children will be introduced to The Fairy Doll ballet, and invited to attend the Summer Celebration as special guests of Kansas Ballet. Participating clubs include Adams, Tecumseh, Logan and Montera.
DREAM BIG PARTNERS
Kansas Ballet’s presentation of The Fairy Doll Ballet is funded in part by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (KCAIC), which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
