Topeka South Rotary Introduced Three Scholarship Winners

The Topeka South Rotary Club introduced the three local Shawnee County high school seniors who won their Club’s 2 nd annual scholarships. With an emphasis on service to the community, Topeka South Rotary recognizes the importance of post-secondary education and encourages our local youth to pursue their passion at either the vocational school level or to a 2 or 4-year college or university.

Award Amounts:

  • One $500 scholarship to a Topeka High Interact high school senior

  • One $500 scholarship to a Shawnee County Interact high school senior

  • One $500 scholarship to a Shawnee County high school senior

Topeka High Interact High School Senior

Keely Rogers is graduating from Topeka High School. During her time as a Trojan she has been on honor roll every semester. For the past three years she has been an active member of interact and served as president this year. Keely has held an officer position in NEHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Spirit Club, and French Club. Keely was also captain of the dance team and a member of the women’s golf team. Keely plans to attend the University of Memphis with a major in Non-profit administration and organization.

Shawnee County Interact High School Senior

NiJaree Canady has chosen to attend Stanford University to continue her academic and softball career. Going in as an undeclared major, she does have a high interest in business/management. While in high school, NiJaree has been involved in many different clubs and activities including National Honor Society, Interact Club, National English Honor Society, Varsity Softball, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Government, along with finishing in the top 10% of her class.

Shawnee County High School Senior

Giles Frederickson is graduating from Washburn Rural High School and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate. Since freshman year, Giles has played varsity golf and varsity football, is a member of the National Honors Society and co-founded the club Students Against Prejudice/Make a Difference. Giles served as the 6A male representative for the KSHSAA Student Advisory Team for two years. Since elementary school, he has been involved in service work in Bangladesh and have visited there several times. Next year Giles plans to study PGA Golf Management at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for a Topeka South Rotary scholarship, you must be pursuing a post-secondary educational opportunity.

Qualifications:

To qualify for a Topeka South Rotary scholarship, the student should be:

● A person with a broad range of interests encompassing a good academic record, participation in a variety of school activities, and involvement in community or charitable service.

● An individual who has a knowledge of Rotary and has demonstrated a belief in the work ethic through service experiences.

● A self-motivated person who has established goals and objectives with the proven ability to meet or exceed those targets.
