Cardiologist Hisham Hakeem, M.D., Joins Stormont Vail Health
Stormont Vail Health is proud to announce that Hisham Hakeem, M.D., has joined our medical team and will practice as a Cardiologist, located at 929 SW Mulvane St., Topeka, Kan. 66606. Dr. Hakeem will work as a non-invasive cardiologist who specializes in cardiac imaging, including cardiac CT and MR.
Dr. Hakeem started his medical career in Internal Medicine during his residency before specializing in cardiology.
He said he likes to think he’s affable and compassionate, but really loves solving puzzles.
“In internal medicine, you could have a patient with 20 different presentations come through the door and it’s up to you to figure out how to help them,” said Dr. Hakeem. “That’s what I love and in cardiology, I felt like imaging provided me that avenue in which I can look at a patient, see their imaging, and treat them. I just want to solve the puzzle and take care of the patient. I have a passion for the specialty and I feel like that carries you forward.”
Dr. Hakeem’s approach to medicine is to provide comprehensive care with everyone involved in the treatment plan.
“To me, the patient is an equal partner in his or her care. I’m not going to tell you what to do, I’m going to tell you what options you have and why it’s in your best interests.”
Hisham Hakeem, M.D., earned his medical degree in India before attending Seton Hall University-Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine for his residency in internal medicine at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. He then completed his cardiovascular fellowship at Rutgers Health and went on to the University of Utah for an advanced fellowship in cardiac imaging.
Dr. Hakeem has contributed to many publications and abstracts involving research in thrombosis and COVID-19, coronary artery disease, clinical outcomes after stent revascularization, and more. His work has been published in several medical journals, notably in Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions and European Heart Journal Case Reports.
Dr. Hakeem said he is very dedicated and passionate about cardiology both in and out of the office. In his free time he likes to go swimming, diving, and hiking. He believes the best medicine is being outside and in the sun to get you energized for the workplace.
“I want people to know they have a trustworthy cardiologist who will be with them through thick and thin. I will be able to hold their hands and take them through one of the most difficult times in their life. I think if I can do that, then I have succeeded in being a doctor.”
