Wendy Farley | YWCA Women of Excellence Honoree
What inspires you to get up and do the work?
I am inspired by the strength, resilience and courage demonstrated by the amazing individuals I work with every day. The ability to help someone overcome painful circumstances, reach their full potential and live a more authentic, peaceful life is what motivates me to do the work.
What have you learned about yourself through the challenges you have overcome?
I have the strength, determination and perseverance to overcome any challenge. Challenges have also taught me to trust myself and to prioritize what is important in life.
How do you take care of yourself?
Maintaining a good work-life balance is key. I have an amazing support system that encourages me to pursue my dreams, not take myself too seriously and laugh as often as possible.
What is the best advice you've ever been given? Or what advice do you have for others?
Live your life with passion and purpose.
What is your vision for our community? Has it changed through the pandemic and racial justice reckoning of recent years?
I envision a community that is inclusive and celebrates diversity. A community where we value, respect and provide equal opportunities for everyone regardless of age, race, gender or sexual orientation.
The mission of YWCA is to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. What does YWCA's mission mean to you?
It means a community driven by strong, dedicated women, who strive for excellence and encourage others to reach their full potential.
