Valeo Behavioral Health Care Announces SAMHSA Grant to Transform into a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC)
Valeo Behavioral Health Care has received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the amount of $712,885 to improve access to behavioral and physical health services by transforming the agency into a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).
A CCBHC is a specially designated clinic that provides a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use services to vulnerable individuals. In April 2021, Kansas became the first state to pass legislation establishing the CCBHC model as a solution to the mental health and substance use crisis.
CCBHCs provide nine types of services, with an emphasis on the provision of 24-hour crisis care, evidence-based practices, care coordination with local primary care and hospital partners, integration with physical health care, and providing services for members of the armed forces and veterans. CCBHCS integrate additional services that work to create an approach to health care that focuses on recovery, wellness, trauma-informed care, and physical and behavioral health integration. One of the distinct elements of the CCBHC is the comprehensive care that will be established by care coordination with other healthcare providers.
A CCBHC designation will create increased access to care, further help stabilize people in crisis, and provide enhanced treatment for those with the most serious and complex mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The array of services will result in decreasing wait times, investing in the workforce, expanding access to medication-assisted treatment, increasing crisis services and support, improving collaboration with community agencies, and addressing health disparities.
Through this grant, Valeo Behavioral Health Care will increase integration of healthcare services to improve the overall health of the population, increase timely access to services, and increase utilization of evidence-based practices to reduce the need for more restrictive levels of care.
