Topeka Symphony Society names new Executive Director

After an extensive national search, the Topeka Symphony Society has appointed Kevin Burton as its new Executive Director. Burton brings a variety of leadership experience, non- profit expertise, and extensive knowledge of the Topeka arts community to the Topeka Symphony.

Burton previously worked at the Topeka Civic Theatre and Midland Care, where he developed a passion for the importance of nonprofit organizations to a community’s health and well-being. Additionally, Burton is credentialed as a Certified Fundraising Executive.

He is also an active member of many local institutions. Burton has served on the boards of the Washburn University Leadership Institute, Association of Fundraising Professionals (Topeka Chapter), Forge, and On Stage Live. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University and his Master of Arts from Kansas State University.

Topeka Symphony Society Board President Michelle Ewert said, “We are thrilled to have Kevin Burton step in as the next Executive Director of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra. His love of Topeka, deep community connections, and commitment to helping nonprofits thrive will help the TSO move into the exciting next phase of its existence.”

Burton stated, “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Topeka Symphony Society. I look forward to being a part of the effort to bring the organization to the next level, and to increasing the reach of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra.”

The Topeka Symphony’s mission is to encourage and cultivate appreciation and support for fine music in northeast Kansas by presenting performances of high quality and by providing educational and performance opportunities for youth.
