World Turtle Day at the Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center
Springtime is here! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and turtles are awake from hibernation and on the move. Turtles have been roaming the earth since the days of the dinosaurs and play critical roles in food chains, food webs, and ecosystems.
The U.S. is fortunate to have 60 different species of turtles. That is more species of turtles than live in any other single country on earth. Some of those species in fact, live only in the U.S. Turtles are also among the most imperiled vertebrate animals in the world, with over 61% of them either threatened, endangered, or already extinct.
On Saturday, May 25th, 9:00 – 3:00, the Topeka Zoo will celebrate World Turtle Day with activities around the zoo for kids of all ages. There will be make and take crafts for kids and live turtles walking the sidewalk to meet and greet you.
Come join the Topeka Zoo on Saturday, May 25th, 9:00 – 3:00, as we celebrate the fascinating lives of turtles. For more information contact Dennis Dinwiddie at ddinwiddie@topekazoo.org or call 785-368-9134.
