Great Overland Station Flag Day Celebration Set For June 8

Great Overland Station Flag Day Celebration Set For June 8

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation is getting a head start on celebrating Flag Day. The Great Overland Station is proud to announce its upcoming Flag Day Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, June 8 from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. This event promises to be a day filled with patriotism, community spirit, and family-friendly fun.

The highlight of the celebration will be the official flag retirement ceremonies, providing attendees with the opportunity to respectfully retire worn-out flags. Guests are encouraged to bring their own flags to be retired by the VFW at a later date, adding a personal touch to the proceedings. Scouting of America will also be changing some of the flags on property.

In addition to the flag retirement ceremonies, the celebration will feature, for the first time, a classic car show, complete with awards for standout vehicles. Car enthusiasts are invited to register their cars for $20 per car, with proceeds going towards the Parks for All Foundation, supporting community green spaces and recreational facilities. Also on display will be bikes from the organization Bikers against Child Abuse (BACA).

But the festivities don't end there! Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities throughout the day, including:

  • Vendors: Explore a diverse selection of vendors offering unique goods and services inside Great Overland Station.

  • Live Music: Enjoy live music performances from Wyndi Nights & Lonesome John, adding to the festive atmosphere.

  • Food Trucks: Indulge in delicious fare from a variety of food trucks, offering something for every palate.

Admission to the Flag Day Celebration is FREE to the public, making it accessible to all members of the community.
