Stormont Vail Health Welcomes Zane Foster, M.D., to the Neurology Department

Stormont Vail Health proudly welcomes Dr. Zane Foster to the Stormont Vail Neurology Department. Dr. Foster will support patients with neurological conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nerves at the Cotton O'Neil Neuro & Spine Center, 2660 S.W. 3rd St., Topeka, 66606.

Before entering medical school, Dr. Foster's interest in other cultures and backgrounds led him to study anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. During his studies, he realized he could make those human connections (as well as a meaningful career) in medicine. With this in mind, he completed his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

"Neurology is a kind of extension of anthropology," said Dr. Foster. "It's the part of medicine that makes us human: the brain and how it functions. That's one reason I went into neurology; the people we see and the conditions we treat truly strike at what it means to be a person and how we [as doctors] can help."

To Dr. Foster, the practice of neurology isn't just about treating conditions, but about forming genuine connections with patients seeking trustworthy doctors to guide them through their health journey. While his medical knowledge is crucial, Dr. Foster's patient-centered approach, which emphasizes each patient's unique situation and comprehensive support, ensures that his patients feel reassured and cared for.

"Every patient comes to the doctor for a different reason or goal. It's easy to slip into a mindset of anticipating what they want or are there for. But that leads to miscommunications, so it's equally important to know how to treat and address patients."

Dr. Foster completed an internal medicine internship and a neurology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. As the newest member of the Stormont Vail Neurology team, he is ready to leverage his extensive training to positively impact his patients' lives—call (785) 354-0550 to schedule an appointment.
