Stormont Vail Foundation to Host 24th Annual Golf Tournament
The Stormont Vail Foundation will host its 24th annual BIG HEARTS Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 16, at Topeka Country Club. The tournament has already raised more than $240,000 in sponsorships, gifts, and registrations.
The golf tournament will have an 8 a.m. morning flight and a 1 p.m. afternoon flight, with a dinner and awards ceremony following the tournament. There are 238 registered players joining us this year.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit a new equipment campaign for Stormont Vail’s Neonatal Intensive Care, where some 400 premature and seriously ill newborns receive lifesaving care each year. Here, our team provides exceptional care for some of our tiniest patients - some who are just 22 weeks gestation and weigh less than a pound.
In 2005, thanks to significant donor support, Stormont Vail’s NIC moved into a new, state-of-the-art space. While the unit’s design and innovation has withstood the test of time, equipment does not last forever. As we prepare to mark the 20th anniversary of the NIC, it is time to replace some of the unit’s aging equipment. Equipment to be purchased includes new Giraffe Omnibed Carestations, which mimic the womb environment providing babies the best chance to grow and thrive.
“Our tournament sponsors and friends recognize that we are fortunate to have such specialized care available in our region for babies and their families,” said Tina Long, development officer and tournament coordinator. “Their support will translate into lifesaving cardiac care that will help ensure Stormont Vail’s most vulnerable patients continue to receive the highest quality of care.”
This year’s honorary tournament chairs are Stormont Vail Health’s President and CEO, Dr. Rob Kenagy, and his wife Tammy. The presenting sponsor is the Hospital Assistance Program with Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer and Lockton Companies serving as title sponsors.
