Topeka Extends Partnership To Host Usa Wrestling Of Kansas State Tournament Through 2030
The Topeka Area Sports Commission (TASC), in collaboration with USA Wrestling of Kansas, proudly announces a five-year extension to host the USA Wrestling of Kansas Kids Folkstyle State Tournament at the Stormont Vail Events Center from March 2026 through March 2030. This decision solidifies Topeka's position as a central hub for youth wrestling in Kansas and ensures the continuation of a legacy that has spanned more than 30 years.
"Topeka is honored to be the enduring home of this premier youth wrestling event," said Mike Bell, Executive Director of TASC. "This isn’t just a win for our wrestling community—it’s a powerful affirmation of our investment in facilities, hospitality, and inclusive youth sports.”
Bringing together over 2,500 male and female athletes—including a record-setting 900 female wrestlers in 2025—and more than 7,000 fans and family members each year, this tournament is a cornerstone of Kansas wrestling. Held from Friday night through Sunday, it transforms Topeka into a statewide destination for athletic excellence and community celebration. The 2025 event alone is projected to generate $1.5–2 million in direct spending, providing a substantial boost to local hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Beyond its immediate economic impact, the tournament contributes to long-term tourism and hospitality growth through 2030. It also directly supports the Topeka Area Sports Commission’s strategic pillars: event hosting, infrastructure development, inclusive sports growth, and community engagement, making it not just a sporting event, but a catalyst for regional progress.
“The Stormont Vail Events Center is uniquely equipped to handle a tournament of this magnitude, providing a premier experience for the thousands of young athletes, their families, and fans who will travel here from across Kansas,” said Shawnee County Commissioner Aaron Mays. “We eagerly anticipate the energy and excitement these young wrestlers will bring to our community each year and look forward to a continued, successful partnership.”
Facility enhancements were central to the decision to keep the tournament in Topeka, specifically at Landon Arena and the expanded Exhibition Hall. The arena now features 22,400 square feet of space with advanced sound, lighting, and video boards, creating a top-tier competition setting. The Exhibition Hall offers 75,500 square feet, ideal for wrestling mats and auxiliary needs. On-site hotel accommodations and meeting spaces for teams and officials add convenience. These upgrades, along with strong community collaboration, made Topeka the clear and strategic choice for hosting the event.
The success of this bid would not have been possible without the invaluable support and collaboration of several key community partners. We are especially grateful to USA Wrestling of Kansas, the Shawnee County Commissioners, Visit Topeka, the Topeka Lodging Association, Oak View Group, and the City of Topeka. Their collective efforts and commitment played a vital role in securing this opportunity and ensuring the continued growth of this premier event in our community.
