Library offers two unique art experiences Sept 12 & 13

The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is showcasing unique art with the opening of "Inked: The Art of Tattooing" exhibit on Friday, September 12 in the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery and the Lowrider Culture Fest on Saturday, September 13 at Gage Park.

"Inked: The Art of Tattooing"

Explore the art of tattooing and the collaborative relationship between the tattoo artist and their client in the "Inked" exhibit Sept 12 - Nov 30, 2025, in the library’s Alice C. Sabatini Gallery. The gallery worked with Topeka tattoo shops and artists including Olympus Ink, Looking Glass Tattoo and Matryoshka Tattoo to share the art and knowledge of tattoo artists working today. The exhibit also includes art on loan from the Bert Grimm Tattoo Museum in Kansas City. Meet the featured artists at an Opening Reception on Monday, September 15 at noon to 2 p.m. in the gallery.

Lowrider Culture Fest

Admire detailed lowriders from area car, truck and bike owners at Gage Park's Carousel parking lot on Saturday, September 13 from 11am to 3pm. This free family event will include food trucks, face painting, games and a piñata making demonstration. Vehicle entry is free and trophies will be awarded for best vehicles and best bikes. The library is coordinating this event honoring Hispanic Heritage Month in partnership with Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, Diverse Ones Car Club and Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club.
