Visit Topeka to Host Celebrate America: A Capitol Kansas Concert
Visit Topeka, in collaboration with the Kansas 250 Commission, invites residents and visitors to come together for Celebrate America: A Capitol Kansas Concert, a free, patriotic evening in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. The event will take place Thursday, July 2, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the heart of Kansas’ capital city and is open to all ages.
As a member of the Kansas 250 Commission, Senator Brenda Dietrich emphasized the significance of marking the milestone at the Kansas State Capitol.
“America 250 is an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s history, honor the sacrifices that built our freedoms, and celebrate the spirit that continues to unite our communities here in Kansas. The Kansas State Capitol is the perfect place to commemorate this milestone and showcase the important role Kansas has played in our nation’s story,” said Senator Brenda Dietrich.
The evening begins from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a welcome program featuring opening remarks, a presentation from the Kansas Poet Laureate, a performance by the Capital City Chorus, and an invocation. From 8:00 to 9:00 p.m., the Topeka Symphony Orchestra will take the stage for a 65-minute performance celebrating American music and heritage.
Set against one of Kansas’ most iconic backdrops, the evening will highlight the spirit of America 250 through music, community and shared civic pride. The Topeka Symphony Orchestra’s performance will create a memorable experience for guests of all ages while showcasing downtown Topeka as a place where history, culture and community come together.
“Celebrate America: A Capitol Kansas Concert is about creating a shared experience in a place that means so much to our city and state,” said Sean Dixon, president of Visit Topeka. “We’re proud to help bring the community together at the Capitol for an evening of music, reflection and celebration as Topeka takes part in this national milestone.”
Following the orchestra’s conclusion, the celebration will continue with a light and fountain show synchronized with music at Evergy Plaza, offering an extended opportunity for the community to gather and reflect. Additional details regarding the Capitol lighting ceremony will be shared as timing is finalized.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to enjoy the concert. Food trucks will be available on site, along with a water station, and attendees are encouraged to bring refillable bottles. A beer garden will be located in front of Celtic Fox, with the reminder that alcohol is not permitted on Capitol grounds.
In addition to the July 2 concert, Visit Topeka is partnering with Downtown Topeka Inc. to launch an America 250 Trail Walk that will be available throughout July. The route will begin at the Docking State Office Building, weave through the Capitol grounds, highlight historic statues, artwork, legacy markers and downtown icons, and end at Constitution Hall.
The trail is designed to encourage residents and visitors to explore downtown Topeka while connecting with the history, people and places that help tell the story of Kansas’ role in America’s 250th anniversary.
Celebrate America: A Capitol Kansas Concert is part of broader America 250 commemorations and highlights Topeka’s role as Kansas’ capital city while bringing the community together through music, history and shared celebration.
