brewatzooBrew Rules and List Flyer This Saturday, July 11, the Friends of the Topeka Zoo will be hosting their annual beer tasting fundraiser, Brew at the Topeka Zoo. With an estimated 1,200 people in attendance, this event is sure to be the biggest Brew at the Zoo yet. A confirmed 22 brewery vendors will be serving over 80 varieties of beer. This is almost double the amount of vendors that were in attendance last year. Some of the recognizable local breweries include Tallgrass, Boulevard, FreeState and Blind Tiger, who the zoo has just recently gained as a sponsor of the Sumatran Tigers. They, along with the other vendors from around the country, will be spread throughout the zoo creating a loop of great beer that participants can taste from entry to exit.

Games and competitive sports will again be a big part of Brew at the Zoo with large, adult inflatables such as the Bungee Run and The Grind. A big, inflatable Slip’N Slide will also be present for those that wish to cool off quickly in the July heat. Along with the inflatables that will cover the lawn in the north of the zoo, there will also be a Brew Arena, located in Big Gage Shelter House. The Brew Arena will house some individual games such as ladder ball, bags and even a Mechanical Bull. Face Painting and three vendors will also be located in the Brew Arena as well. Additionally, competitors can participate in peddle cart races that zoom through the new Adventure Trail area in the east of the Zoo.

New this year will be seven food trucks including Papa Murphy’s, Big Boys BBQ, Ice & Olives, Southern Star Café, Front Door Catering, Noble House and Grandma Wock’s. Each one will be providing a simple menu that when looked at as a whole creates a range of flavors that appeal to any of the attendees. These will be at an additional purchase that will give guests the chance to try some of these wonderful vendors at a convenient time.

“Months of preparation have gone into this event and we’re happy to provide a night that everyone can enjoy while raising money for the Topeka Zoo,” Stated Kate Larison, Executive Director of FOTZ. “This has proved to be a fan favorite event for the community. The staff and committee have again planned a wonderful event that is even bigger than previous years. We encourage the public to come out and participate in this zoo fun-raiser”

The Brew Store will also be offering extra tasting glasses, commemorative growlers, shirts, koozies, backpacks and more for purchase. Proceeds from the event go to support the Topeka Zoo, including exhibit enhancement, education, conservation and more.

The Ramada Downtown has offered a special rate for ticket holders and includes shuttle service to and from the event and hot breakfast the following morning.

Tickets are currently still on sale but are estimated to sell out before Friday. Participants can purchase their tickets through www.topekazoo.org. In the chance that tickets do not sell out, the online ticket sales will be taken down at 1:00 p.m. Saturday and the remaining tickets will be sold at the door. This is a 21 and over event and ID’s will be checked at the door.
