Stormont-Vail HealthCare announced today that it has been named one of the nation’s Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics. Among the top 50, Stormont-Vail ranked one of only 15 community hospitals named in the United States. The Truven Health Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals is an annual quantitative study that identifies the nation's best providers of cardiovascular service. Selected from more than 1,000 U.S. hospitals, these celebrated winners provide outstanding care and set new standards in excellence for the health care industry. Hospitals do not apply and winners do not pay to market their honor.
The Truven Top 50 designation is based on analysis of Medicare patients. These hospitals have the following in common:
- Significantly higher inpatient survival
- Fewer patient complications
- Higher survival rates for heart attack and heart failure
- Lower re-admission rates for heart attack and heart failure
- Better performance on Medicare and Medicaid Core Measures
- Lower length of stay
- Lower cost per patient case
“This is quite an accomplishment,” said Joe Hopeck, Stormont-Vail HealthCare administrative director of the cardiovascular service line. “When it comes to providing high quality cardiovascular care at Stormont-Vail, we are not just surviving in this environment, but we are thriving, and that is great news for our patients.”
