Nominations Due March 16 for Small Business Awards
Each year the Greater Topeka Partnership recognizes four local businesses and one small business advocate. This year’s Small Business Awards will take place on May 15, 2018. CATEGORIES:
Capital City Business of Distinction - An individual who owns 51% of a small business and is responsible for the principal operations of the small business.
Minority-Owned Business of Distinction - A minority-owned business is a business that is at least 51% owned and operated by one of the following: Native American, Hispanic/Latino, African-American, Asian/Pacific Islander or Subcontinent Asian.
Women-Owned Business of Distinction - The nominee must be a female who serves as a majority owner (51% or more) and operates or bears principal responsibility for operating a small business.
Nonprofit Award of Distinction - Must be legally formed as one of the following: 501(c)3, 501(c)4, 501(c)5 or 510(c)6.
Emerging Entrepreneur Award - Successful business owner who has been in business one to three years. The nominee must be aligned with below criteria and must submit two references from either an educator, community service professional or customer.
Small Business Advocate - An individual or organization that assists entrepreneurs through advocacy, technical assistance to small businesses, supports the development of entrepreneurs or raises the awareness about the importance of small businesses to the community.
CRITERIA FOR ALL CATEGORY NOMINEES:
Longevity: The company or firm must have been in business a minimum of three successive years under the same ownership. Exception made for Emerging Entrepreneur Award and Small Business Advocate.
Growth: The firm should demonstrate growth in employees, sales and business/organization expansion
Community Involvement: The ownership of the firm should demonstrate initiative to aid the community through the use of personal or financial resources, including examples of involvement of its business, or in product or service.
Imagination/Creativity: The firm should have demonstrated creativity and imagination in the development of its business, or in its product or service.
Nominees must be located in Shawnee County.
