Topeka Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s call on women across Topeka to get involved in their community during National Women Build Week 2018
[Topeka, Kansas] (April 10, 2018) – For the 11th year, Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s are engaging women nationwide to work together to build Habitat homes during this year’s National Women Build Week from May 5-13. In preparation for the build week, Topeka Habitat and Lowe’s are hosting “how to” clinics to equip volunteers with knowledge and skills in construction and home interior, basic safety techniques and what to expect when building a Habitat home. These clinics are open to Habitat volunteers and fellow women volunteers during this year’s National Women Build Week.
“Lowe’s is in the business of helping people improve and maintain their homes,” said James Frison, Lowe’s Director of Community Relations. “Lowe’s Heroes have helped build hundreds of Habitat homes across the country and National Women Build Week is another chance for Lowe’s to reinforce our long-standing commitment to Habitat, Women Build and communities where our employees and customers live and work.”
Locally, Lowe’s will host free how-to-clinics in Topeka, KS on the following dates:
How to Safely Use Hand and Power Tools April 10th 6pm How to Install Exterior Siding April 24th 6pm How to Install Insulation and Drywall May 8th 6pm How to Finish Interior with Paint and Trim May 22nd 6pm

National Women Build Week, a nationwide initiative created by Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s in 2008, has brought together more than 117,000 all-women construction volunteers to build or repair homes with nearly 5,000 families over the past 10 years. This year, Lowe’s donated nearly $2 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the 2018 National Women Build Week, which is set to take place in 300 communities nationwide.
Since Lowe’s national partnership with Habitat for Humanity began in 2003, the home improvement company has committed more than $63 million to Habitat and helped nearly 6,500 families improve their living conditions. To learn more about National Women Build Week, visit Habitat.org/wb.
About Topeka Habitat for Humanity:
THFH is a non-profit, non-denomination Christian housing ministry that brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Dedicated to ending substandard housing THFH builds simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families’ in-need. Qualifying families receive home ownership education, connectedness to their communities as they volunteer 300-600 “sweat equity” hours and ultimately, an opportunity to own their own home through an interest-free loan. Habitat homes are built by high school students earning academic credit in career-technical education courses at three local high schools, the homes are placed on donated lots, and finished by volunteers and homeowners. All of these efforts are additionally supported by the Topeka ReStore, which sells donated home improvement items at a discount to raise funds for THFH.
