“Dump the semi’s and sweep up all wheat into the bins from 6am to past midnight.”
Why did you choose this as your first job?
“So that I could stand outside is 100-degree weather for 18+ hours per day or because my dad made me – I can’t fully remember. I’ve tried to block it out.”
What memory pops into your head about your first job?
“My first paycheck was $700 for two weeks work. I thought I was rich and bought an official KC Royals hat.”
What life lesson did you learn from this job?
“I understand and appreciate the work ethic of farmers and trades people. I have always worked until the job is done no matter how many hours than means.”
What advice would you give to a kid starting their first job?
“Look at hotels and restaurants in the hospitality industry. It’s flexible scheduling, you get to meet lots of different people…and it’s air conditioned!”
