Redbud Park Grand Opening
The NOTO Arts and Entertainment District is proud to announce the grand opening of Redbud Park for Saturday November 16th, 10:30-3:00 PM. Kansas Territorial Pipes and Drums will kick off the formal opening at 10:30AM In addition to the ceremony and ribbon cutting, NOTO will unveil two special art sculptures that are dedicated to the park. The visual art of the sculptures and the "Greetings from Topeka" mural that borders the park, are just highlights of the visual art that is incorporated into the park.
"The opening of Redbud Park is a significant accomplishment for NOTO. Thanks to the support of donors and the community we have been able to transform an old industrial parking lot and garage to a beautiful park to feature the visual and performing arts" said Thomas Underwood, Executive Director. "This is a major milestone for the NOTO district and the community."
Staci Ogle, Program and Communications Coordinator for NOTO added “Redbud Park is just the beginning of our efforts to further promote NOTO as a venue for art. We are currently working on implementing a rotating sculpture program throughout the district as well as plans to have utility boxes painted by various NOTO Artists. It’s a small, yet significant aspect, in the beautification process of the district.”
Following the opening ceremony, there will be performing art throughout the day and various activities for visitors to participate. “We want to show Topeka a sampling of what they might expect to see in the future at Redbud Park. It’s a great reason to come out and celebrate with us and join in the festivities”, said Ogle.
There will be a children's activity in the pavilion after the dedication and a chance to help decorate the Christmas tree. Children can get their coloring sheets for for the Holiday Coloring Contest and Bike Giveaway and adults and submit an entry for the NOTO Holiday Basket Giveaway.
