What leadership skill has served you best?

Relationship building--In my current role, building and maintaining strong relationships is essential. On the team I lead, it is crucial because we are a collaborative team of individuals working toward the same goal to help further our company’s mission and values. In the communities we serve, relationship building is essential to gain trust, understand and to collaborate with business and community partners. Relationship building challenges me to have other strong leadership skills like humility, compassion and effective communications skills.

Since your time as a 20 Under 40 honoree, what is the most impactful experience and what did you learn from it?

Making a job change during the pandemic! I have learned how to adapt and how to become more comfortable with ambiguity. I met every person in my new company virtually, versus in- person. I never knew how thankful I would be for Microsoft Teams! The pandemic has forced companies and their employees to make best use out of technology and to adapt to challenges.

What advice do you have for future leaders?

Be sure you have a mentor. Your mentor should be someone who challenges you, doesn’t necessarily agree with everything you say and is someone who can help you grow to your greatest potential.
