Most retail and service businesses need a physical space of some kind in order to operate. Even when the majority of transactions take place online, space is needed to do the work, store inventory, prepare goods for shipping, and so on. Traditional store or office space is a big expense and a big commitment, so many small business owners find their fit by leasing booth or office space in a community of other professionals. Property managers who lease space to small businesses provide the maintenance and service needed to keep a building running and also help small businesses to grow their networks and connect with clients. In Topeka, many shared workspaces are truly communities.
