Artificial intelligence to aid in the detection of cancer at KMC Gastroenterology
KMC Gastroenterology is the first in the state of Kansas to use artificial intelligence to aid in the detection of cancer causing colon polyps. The new technology is Medtronic’s GI Genius. As record numbers of advanced stage colon cancers are being diagnosed across the United States, Kansans now have access to state-of-the-art computing because early detection matters. The CDC states the 5 year survival for stage 1 colon cancer is 90%, while the five year survival rate for stage 4 colon cancer is just 14%.
Dr. Shekhar Challa, President and CEO of Kansas Medical Clinic, says “AI (artificial intelligence) is indeed the wave of the future. We are honored to be the first in Kansas to be able to adapt to this new technology introduced by Medtronic to detect colon polyps. Our patients will definitely benefit with GI genius.”
Dr. Shekhar Challa has been the first doctor to bring several innovative gastroenterology procedures to the state of Kansas. Dr. Shekhar Challa was inducted to the Topeka Business Hall of Fame in 2020. He’s the author of several books, most recently Probiotics for Dummies. Dr. Shekhar Challa is the principal investigator for the KMC Research Center which has brought more than 40 clinical research studies in gastroenterology and hepatology with 15 gastroenterology and hepatology studies currently.
