Celebrate Global Tiger Day at the Topeka Zoo: Join Us on July 27th!

The Topeka Zoo is proud to announce its participation in Global Tiger Day on Saturday, July 27th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This international event aims to raise awareness about tiger conservation and celebrate these majestic creatures worldwide.

Sumatran Tigers, one of the most iconic and endangered species on our planet, face significant challenges in the wild. Currently, there are only five surviving tiger species, with populations totaling approximately 5,500 individuals across their native ranges.

Critically endangered Sumatran tigers, like those at your Topeka Zoo, number fewer than 400 in the wild.

Despite these statistics, global conservation efforts have made remarkable strides in recent years, doubling the wild tiger population over the last decade. These efforts provide hope for the future of tigers globally.

The Topeka Zoo invites the community to join in the celebration of Global Tiger Day with a series of special activities:

Enrichment activities at the tiger exhibit starting at 9:15 AM.
Keeper chats at the tiger viewing windows at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM.
Behind the Scenes Tiger Tour for the first 20 guests at 1:30 PM.
Kids’ booth featuring tiger hat making and wearing.
Educational booth on tigers from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the tiger viewing windows.
Thumbs-Up Day for Tigers with tiger stripe painting on thumbs.

Global Tiger Day activities are included with regular zoo admission, offering a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

“We encourage everyone to join us at the Topeka Zoo on July 27th to learn about our tigers, celebrate these magnificent animals, and explore their future,” said Dennis Dinwiddie, Director of Conservation and Education for the Topeka Zoo.
