Security Benefit donates to Library Foundation for Kids Library Renovation
The Library Foundation received a $50,000 gift from Security Benefit to support the renovations of the Kids Library at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.
“Supporting the Kids Library with a gift of $50,000 underscores our company’s commitment to literacy and education initiatives,” said Security Benefit CEO Doug Wolff. “A few years ago we provided funding for a new bookmobile for the library and we’re excited to announce today our collaboration on another project that will help children learn and grow and someday contribute to our community’s workforce."

The Kids Library renovations will begin in late fall 2024 and will be completed before summer 2025. Every area of the Kids Library will be updated, but some key features include:
New visual and audio aids in the Storytime area
Moving the aquarium to a new location
Creating a play space in the preschool-aged area, along with a quiet room and a sensory room
Adding an infant area located near the preschool play space
Expanding the school-aged area to incorporate more technology, gaming and a featured reading nook
Bringing the teen space into the Kids Library to better align with the location of the young adult books
"Security Benefit has been a steadfast partner of the library for years, from most recently funding our Adventuremobile to supporting students with our homework center and matching employee volunteer support,” said library CEO Marie Pyko. “With this gift, Security Benefit is again supporting our community and improving the lives of our children in Topeka and Shawnee County for many years to come."
“When you ask people about their experience with the library, the majority talk about bringing their kids to the library, coming to Storytime, seeing the aquarium, touching the dinosaur tail and leaving with great books,” said Ashley Charest, Executive Director, The Library Foundation. “We are so grateful for Security Benefit’s donation that will allow us to continue these wonderful memories in our community for generations to come.”
