20 Under 40: CHERIE MCGINNIS, 36
Master of Business Administration from Washburn University
Brave
Optimist
Tenacious
Hero:
My mother showed me what courage and bravery really was when she was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.
Best advice received:
A professor once told me “there are no shortcuts to any place worth going.”
Biggest fear:
My greatest fear is fear. When we are fearful; we become conservative instead of demonstrating our best self. Fear is what holds us back from achieving personal successes.
If you had 10 minutes to talk to anyone, who would it be and what would you ask them?
I would speak to my mother that I lost 25 years ago to breast cancer. I would simply ask her to help me remember her.
Involvement:
United Way of Greater Topeka: Board of Directors
United Way of Greater Topeka: Young Leader Society Chair
Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce: Fast Forward Steering Committee
Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce: Inspire Committee Co-Chair
"Cherie's passion for the Born Learning Trail project is an inspiration to me and countless others. The way she has assisted with mobilizing a small team of fellow young professionals to take something from a concept to a reality to help young people in the community is amazing! Her passion for ensuring students start off with a solid educational foundation is to be admired."
